ATHLETIC DIRECTOR Class Code: 5115 MAYFIELD INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BASIC FUNCTION: Plan, organize, direct and implement the district athletic activities, including recommending the purchase and rental of equipment and athletic facilities. Coach or assist coaches in various athletic programs. Serve as the district point of contact for athletic program questions from school, district and state personnel. REPORTS TO: Principal APPROVED: 9/18/2017 JOB GOALS: To provide each high school student an opportunity to participate in extra-curricular athletic activities that will foster skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of the sport, and principles of fair play. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
  • Organizes and administers the overall program of interscholastic/intramural athletics for the high school pursuant to Board and KHSAA policies. Serves as liaison to the feeder middle school athletic program.
  • Recommends employment and assignment of athletic coaches to the principal.
  • Fosters good school/community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
  • Organizes and schedules all interscholastic/intramural events. Coaches may recommend and assist in scheduling, but the Athletic Director retains responsibility.
  • Coordinates the securing of game officials. Coaches may secure officials for their own sport, but the Athletic Director coordinates home events.
  • Coordinates with coaches, transportation for athletic participants; responsible to file with district central office staff all transportation requests pursuant to Board policy.
  • Develops, with approval of the principal, appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of teams and coaches.
  • Enforces physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participating in each sport and verifies each athlete's eligibility. Consistent with Board policy.
  • Supervises coaches in preparation of an activity budget.
  • Administers the approved athletic budget throughout the year. Confers monthly with the principal as to the status of all athletic accounts as reported in the monthly school activity financial report.
  • Ensures that coaches follow Board procurement policy in securing supplies and equipment for athletic teams.
  • Works with visiting teams to insure needed services.
  • Coordinates record keeping and results of all high school athletic contests.
  • Works closely with athletic booster groups to interpret and promote school policy and philosophy as it applies to the functions of the booster groups.
  • Evaluates the performance of all head coaches. Submits form evaluation and recommendation to the principal within 30 days of completion of coaching duties each year.
  • Directly supervises assistant athletic director(s) if such positions are funded. Contacts law enforcement officers/team physician for athletic contest and activities.
  • Supervises after hours extra-curricular activities as designated by Principal.
  • Supervises all ticket and concession sales at athletic events; all school vending sales; and assumes responsibility for proper handling of money pursuant to Board and KY Dept. of Ed. Regulations.
  • Maintains confidentially of students and/or staff.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities the principal may assign from time to time. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. ABILITY TO:
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Plan and organize work. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (preferred) Valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate. Three (3) years successful teaching experience. Experience as department chairman or other administration experience desired. Three (3) years H/S athletic involvement. " />
