JOB TITLE: Food Service Assistant or Cook
RESPONSIBLE TO: School Food Service Manager
GENERAL DUTIES: The Food Service Assistant completes duties related to the preparation, serving, and receiving of food and sanitation of equipment and facilities as assigned by the cafeteria manager.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Must have ability to follow oral and written instructions. Facility in arithmetic.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements defined standards of sanitation for personnel, food preparation, kitchen equipment, and physical plant
- Identifies and performs the basic first aid techniques necessary in emergencies that arise
- Performs accepted procedures for operating, cleaning, and caring for each major piece of equipment
- Performs accepted procedures for using, cleaning, caring for and storing knives and potentially dangerous small equipment items
- Demonstrates the use and operation of fire extinguishers for each type of fire
- Reports accidents and refers potential safety hazards to the manager
- Participates in the preparation of food within an established production system following standardized recipes, preparation and serving methods, and food handling techniques to ensure acceptable standards
- Demonstrates recommended methods for measuring and/or weighing ingredients
- Demonstrates understanding and use of standardized recipes
- Exhibits familiarity with all basic equipment pieces
- Demonstrates ability to schedule time to complete food preparation
- Follows established procedures for service and distribution of meals
- Participates in preparation and service of planned meals for special functions
- Maintains required forms and records as assigned
- Demonstrates familiarity with portion sizes, servings per unit, count or size, and expected production capacity per recipe
- Assumes responsibility as food service employee, follows work assignments, and maintains work station
- Demonstrates the ability to work with fellow employees and students
- Demonstrates knowledge of Board regulations and procedures
- Demonstrates comprehension of regulations and procedures
- Participates in planned in-service training sessions
- Attends relevant training classes and workshops
- Demonstrates ability to follow up instruction in training sessions through performance
- Recognizes the chain of command, grievances procedures, and levels of job responsibilities
- Performs additional duties as assigned by manager
- Assists manager as requested
